15 minutes to spare for your health?

I was wondering the blogging world today and I came across a great article with a GREAT workout and I just couldn't not pop in to share it with you.  It is something that really brings to light just how anyone can find just a little bit of time to think about their health and then do something about it.

How many times a day do you put yourself last?  Why not ensure you take 15 minutes to make yourself feel better and healthier?

This great blurb "Get Sexy and Lean In 15min..." is a great and time efficient way to do that and I couldn't not find the time here to quickly share that with you.  I hope that all of you are enjoying your November so far!  Have any tips for us on how to stay fit in the winter months?

I have been gone too long

I have been away from here for far too long and the days here are getting more wet and depressing.  I have been so busy trying to run an in home daycare, keeping up with my Mumfection blog, party planning like a madwoman cause this is a super busy month for that with me.  Then to top it all off I am still managing to squeeze in a work out everyday for the most part.  I mean Sundays sometimes get pushed to the side if i'm lucky enough to have nothing to do but recover from a busy weekend.  Usually my Sundays are spent cleaning the house from ceilings to base boards which still manages to work up a HUGE sweat.  Partly because my apartment is like living in a sweat box sometimes lol, or I just sweat an unnatural amount... which I've always thought to be true.

Now since I have been away I haven't lost a lot of weight, I don't think, but i FEEL soo great and my energy level is better than ever.  I have created a monster... so big that I can't stop planning events and am now doing a Halloween Costume Party for my birthday coming up.  The decorations are going to take at least three days to do and finish, then I have to make all the themed food so I'm in panic mode and I'm kinda loving it in a sick way lol.  I have also discovered that having a daycare opens up doors to many ways to get free exercise we go on hikes and on rainy days we do silly and fun aerobics that everyone can get in on.  I am feeling sexy people and that puts a smile on my face... or maybe it is just the sexy Halloween costume I can't stop myself from trying on over and over again.  Regardless I am happy and I would love to hear the same from all of you.

What are some of your fav fun ways to get your sweat on during the fall season??  I have to admit running the track on a cold Fall night as the leaves fall is pretty amazing and it smells just like Halloween outside MMmmmm.

I missed you guys!

Scrumptious Sundays!!!

I have seen many variations of this recipe but I have only just recently found one that I really like.
Not something you would think that I personally would go for, but I LOVE it.
This is something that I usually always get from take out too so finding a healthy AT HOME recipe I could work with as a replacement was hard; but I did it.

My perfectly healthier at home choice for Asian Garlic Tofu!!! HORAY!!!

1 pkg extra-firm tofu
2 tbsp (25 mL) vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 tsp (5 mL) minced gingerroot, (or 1/2 tsp/2 mL ground)
1/4 tsp (1 mL) pepper
3/4 cup (175 mL) vegetable stock or low-sodium chicken stock
1/4 cup (50 mL) soy sauce (low sodium; i prefer china lily brand)
1 tbsp (15 mL) cornstarch
2 green onions, diagonally sliced

Pat tofu dry; cut crosswise into 4 slices. In large nonstick skillet, heat half of the oil over medium-high heat; fry tofu, turning once, until golden, about 8 minutes. Remove to plates and keep warm.
Add remaining oil to pan; fry onion, garlic, ginger and pepper over medium heat until onion is softened, about 3 minutes.
Add stock and soy sauce; bring to boil. Stir cornstarch with 1 tbsp (15 mL) water; stir into pan and boil, stirring, until thickened, about 1 minute. Pour over tofu. Sprinkle with onions.

Scrumptious Sundays!!!

Today I wanted to show you something that is honestly the most delicous form of apple on this planet.  I am not normally an apple person, why?  I have no idea, I have always been a banana kinda gal I guess lol.

But when I discovered these I have a new found love with my round green little nemesis.  In fact I can say that, if someone let me, eat these forever they are soooo good and they just make you drool.  Honestly whenever I see this bag of chips I feel like Pavlov's dog (however you spell his name), you know the one with the study on conditioning?

My boys even love these and they HATE apples!  MMmmm they are even a good thing to add to a nice fresh summer salad for some contrast in flavor AND texture!

So what are the numbers on our little friend??

Energy 29 kcal

Total lipid (fat) ~ g
Carbohydrate, by difference 8 g

That is pretty awesome!  Definitely something I could replace my sweet cravings with!!  Hope you all have a lovely and SCRUMPTIOUS SUNDAY!!!

new stats!!

I haven't been weighing myself since i've been so ill this last little while.  I know I have yet to still reply to some of your comments and the like I just barely have time to do anything and i've been really focusing on my main blog.  Making this one more of a bi-weekly blog that I will try to post on twice a week.  If I can make myself commit to twice a week I should be able to up it once I get used to that consistency.

So without further ado I will release to you my stats!!!

WAS: 32.32
NOW: 32.10

NOW: 87.4KG
LOSS OF: 0.6kg

So I think that I can say that i'm happy with that, in fact happy enough since I have been ill and still managed to keep on track with everything.  Now I know it is slow going for me but I am again just constantly happy that I am continuing to loose.  It was soooo hard to even manage that before and here I am now!!  Closer and closer to never looking at the number 200 again!!!

Yoga Booty Ballet

~I was not approached by anyone to do this, it is completely on my own accord and all are my own thoughts and opinions~

For those of you who love to have fun and work up a sweat I have a new trend sweeping the nation, a class you might just LOVE!!

Skeptical, like myself??  I understand it sounds difficult and rather outside most peoples comfort zones... but so was zumba when it first came out, and pole dancing and look at how many of those classes are now offered all over north america!

Yoga booty ballet is a "combination of yoga, ballet, and dance that focuses on having fun, getting sweaty, and gaining flexibility and lean muscles."  Something I could definitely dig my feet into.  Plus the dancing helps with your balance and rhythm!  I have discovered, recently, that I am no longer the dancer that I once was, this was great to get me back into it, help my body remember how to move flowingly, gracefully but still clearly give my body a great workout.

They have so many different workouts, and for those of you on a budget like myself, you can find them, pretty much all of them, on YouTube!  This is one of my favs... one of those workouts I rarely get to do as I refuse to do it in front of the kids or my hubby lol.  So on days that hubby goes to work and I manage to get all the children to sleep at once is when i'll break out this one.  Luckily for me there are clearly less sexy workouts, i just love getting in touch with feeling sexy again, I rarely feel that way so every little bit of an ego boost helps!!

I hope you are all having a lovely monday, maybe you can even squeak in this workout today!!

Scrumptious Sundays!!

I know that I haven't done one of these in a while and I promise I have a couple things up my sleeve for the next few months!  So to begin our new debut of Scrumptious Sundays

So what yummy treat do I have for you today?  Something that my hubby actually came across on the hunt for a dinner idea.  Boy did he ever find one that was YUMMMY!!

Oprah's Ultimate Sloppy Joes are just AMAZING!! I was really surprised actually, I even added some minced red bell peppers to which was just GREAT!  I am sure you could tweak this anyway you like but just as is was delightful!

Doesn't that look soooo good??  Trust me it was absolutely amazing and really easy and really really really fast.  So tonight while you mulling over what to make tonight, something maybe low-key so you can snuggle with the kids or hubby, maybe eat with a movie for a sunday movie night w/e it is this is GREAT.

  • Extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 large onion , diced
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground turkey
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1/4 cup yellow mustard
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 5 whole wheat hamburger buns
Set a heavy-based pot over medium-high heat and add a 3-count of olive oil. Add onions and sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until translucent. Add ground turkey, season well with salt and pepper and brown well all over, breaking it up with a wooden spoon—about 7 to 10 minutes. Add ketchup, mustard, cayenne, brown sugar and tomato paste. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes. Finish with a splash of apple cider vinegar and season it once more before serving on toasted whole wheat hamburger buns.
WAAAY better for you with the turkey meat and try to sneak in some more veg like i did with what was on hand, plus my hubby wouldn't notice it cause it was red and he is the pickiest eater in my house lol!  I also used a low sodium ketchup.

Not one breath goes by that I am not happy to be a non-smoker.  With every puff I could feel myself getting more sick.  I wasn't even unhealthy or a heavy smoker but the smoke just put a weight on me.  A weight of tar and ugliness.  Not a day goes by that i miss the smell, it was disgusting.

So why keep being selfish... put out that butt!

Do you smoke?

Ghosts of Posts past!

I wanted to take the time today to highlight some of our past posts.  Some posts that would love some more love!  I, of course, would always return said love :) xoxo

A while ago I took the time to really highlight one of north america's biggest food no-no's; Soda pop.  The things that I learnt from that post has convinced me to never touch the stuff again, quite honestly... not that I really drank it in the first place unless to accompany alcohol or in my heavy high school days.  Soda today is a huge problem and the best defense is education!

Another one of my fav posts is my post on funny faces.  How making these silly faces can honestly help you tighten and tone it, to abolish/prevent that evil gobble neck.  Not many would think that you can exercise these places, but you can... just takes some private embarassment with you and your mirror lol.

What about Erin you ask?? Well one of my fav posts she did was her post on walking.  She really managed to find something great that anyone of any level can do and that is EXACTLY what i like to see.  A dual level kinda thing that is adaptable in many ways to intensify etc etc.

Please feel free to share some of your under appreciated blog posts below and I would love to check them out :).

secret weapon

I want to let as many ppl as possible know about this thing, cause i NEED it to be in stores cause there is no way i can afford these + shipping :(!! especially since I want ONE daily lol!!!

Feel free to visit show some support and share it with your friends!!

I hope to do a future giveaway with them and i'm waiting to hear back!! Maybe it will be my FIRST giveaway!! OOooOOOOooo

On another note my main blog has been moved to its own domain!!

I hope that this blog would be well on its way down that road, but i find it so hard to keep with one, let alone another.

As to my wieght it has been the same, not one change.  Happy that i haven't gained... kinda sad that with all this nice weather I haven't made it continue to go down.

I am hoping to contact a few companies about sponsoring me with a weight loss program.  No Idea how I will get that done with this blog being kinda slow lately.  But that is my fault.  I need to keep up and smarten up and stop slacking off so badly.

I write a little one day, catch up and then BOOM... another whole week will go by and I wouldn't have done anything.  I have even been trying to focus getting my workouts to work with the kids that I now care for during the day.  Yes that is right, I am running an in home daycare... no wonder I have no time to do anything lol!!

I have been working on kid friendly workouts to try to get the kids involved in them as well as make it easier for me to make sure I get a little workout daily too.  Please let me know if you have great ideas!! So far we are fans of songs with actions and lots of movement like "ring around the rosie" (old school version not the sugar coated one lol), "hokey pokey," and of course "head shoulders knees and toes."  I mean classics and easy to adapt to "work out" movements.  Even "happy as you know it" has great kid work out potential.

But i will touch on this another time.  I will have to... maybe a Vlog will be in order??

Belly Dancing; it's great for ALL women!

When I was younger I did belly dancing, and I LOVED it.  I often think on it and I even do it to exercise a little, you when I'm "cleaning," listening to music I kinda just bust a move and burn a few!

I really wish that I had photos of myself doing it back in the day but unfortunately it was way before the pleasure of me owning a camera lol.  Nonetheless I am here to talk about the many bonus's to trying out belly dancing.

It makes you feel sexy again.  Yes I know not something I had to worry about when I was younger but I happened to be in a class of mixed ages; the oldest of which was 65 years young.  They had a great time and BOY; some of them could really bust a move, putting us younger ducklings to shame.

BURNS!  BOY, I don't think anything has made every inch of my body burn like that in a long time.  Our teacher would just really work us and we'd have a GREAT time doing it!  So what was the harm in having to take a couple days of muscle nursing bubble baths.

Increases your flexibility and in record time!  I was the most in-flexible person on the planet then within about a week of these classes I was, all of a sudden, able to touch my toes without screaming or having my body just say: "HELL NO!"

Great, for pregnant women too!  The movements in belly dancing can't harm your baby at all, gives you a great NEEDED workout AND prepares your pelvic area for giving birth!  It is even said to make the birthing experience just a little bit easier much the same way walking will.  You can even bring some of the moves, slowed down, into the labor room with you helping you to dilate and get thru contractions.  Also AMAZING for blood flow!

So why not give it a shot??  It is a great calorie burn, a great bunch of fun and I guarantee you will meet some new people and some great new friends!   Once things start settling down in my life here money wise I am hoping to invest in a few classes again, join me???

[Update] run run run as fast as you can!

I have been busy busy!! I am doing daycare again!  I know!  Nuts, so I have been up to my eyes in work on the blogs, blogelina groups, blogging classes, daycare, exercising and what not.  What can I say.  There is only so much time in a day.  So I wanted to show you that I HAVE been active and running around.

running after the boys.
weeding with the boys.
Enjoying a sunset on the walk home from a day at the park.
The Moon.
Some more sunset thru the trees.
I can say that I am down 2Lbs since last time!!! HORAY!!! I have been noticing a major difference in how my clothes fit and I am trying to really focus my workouts on my legs and arms right now.  I have been kinda slacking on working my tummy specifically but I do core yoga movements etc, but no pilates for my abs or any crunches.  I find that I am more vulnerable to the kids if I lie down on my back so I have stopped attempting it.  I think I need to just up my Hoola Hooping on my Wii cause that really burns my tummy!!  I also have a birthday on the 27th so I kinda want to tone up a little bit more so I look extra hot in my outfit that I bought for the night.  I have the leggings, still waiting for the "mini-dress."  I also have to remember to take the time to take a pic of myself in my dirty shirty T-shirt to compare how it fits on my body now.  Soon I promise.  I just have to do laundry and bother to put it on and then I have to remember when I have it on.  If i don't do it fresh from the laundry it is kinda cheating lol.  I promise you'll hear from me again!!! xoxoxoxo

Scrumptious Sundays!! Sinless Microwave Popcorn!

Whilst roaming threw the "blogosphere" I came across a diamond in the rough find.  Something that I had never even considered doing, and honestly I should have cause it is brilliant!

This amazing woman managed to share with us homemade microwave popcorn!  YES that is right, the great calorie wise benefits from making your own at home with the convenience we miss from the bag.

Using a brown paper bag and some tape ppl... that is it.  Amazing.

So go check out this recipe and you will be a happy chub loosing mommy/student once again!

are my add-ons making me put-on???

I have begun to notice how I depend on condiments for flavor, and how I never bother to keep track of exactly how much I put on what I eat or how many calories they have.  I am still loosing so I guess it can't be that big of an issue for me, but I do LOVE my mayo... and I know that is horrible for me lol.  I also came across this amazing blog post on yummy mummy, that really brought to my attention the calories in things like mayo etc.  I figured I would take her lead and talk about the same sort of thing BUT only talk about the things I use most commonly.

Our first suspect?  MAYO!

This naughty little fry dip, sandwich lubricator; whatever your sin this stuff can run you up to 100cal/tbsp!  Not to mention the fact that ALL the calories you do see in this ends up turning directly into FAT.  Yes ALL.  I can even guarantee that you mayo users, like myself, probably use more than one EXACT tbsp too... sooo... eeww.  But guess what I found for us mayo lovers???  A "no-egg" mayo recipe.  I know, I know I am amazing... super easy too.  I tried it, and played around with it a bit, and I quite like it!

Our second, not so guilty pleasure??? Horseradish!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff on my steaks... not that I should be eating those steaks anyways lol.  But lucky for us this isn't going to run you up too badly, I bet the more spicy the less you'll use too, so keep that in mind if you notice you're using too much of the "mild" horseradish.  Horseradish traditionally will run you up to 2cal/tsp... not too bad.  Again especially if you use less of the "hot" horseradish :D!

My childs weakness and numero uno fav condiment??!!  Peanut Butter!

Now don't get all up in Mr. PB's face here, he isn't ALL bad.  He does prove to be an amazing source of protein, fiber, vitamin B6, and even a bunch of antioxidants.  With that though comes 188cal/2tbsp; but, like I said, it isn't all bad lol.  There are some other great ideas for "butters" out there TONS in fact I was rather blown away.

Mommy's biggest sin is Red Hot's Hot sauce.  I literally put that Sh!t on everything.

This stuff is GREAT on wings heehee, grilled cheese's, chicken ANYTHING i love it.  Anyways the Cheyenne in it does rev your metabolism by 25% for up to two hours so I can't really argue with that... especially with how much I eat it lol.  But what are the real numbers?? 138cal/8oz. you also have to consider the amount of sodium in this which is: 372.52mg- 15% of your daily intake... just saying.  Lathering this on your salty deep fried wings isn't the most heart healthy thing.  Try baking your wings, not adding salt to the cooking process and make sure your not mixing salted butter with your hot sauce before bathing lol.  Just a LITTLE bit better right?? lol.

What are some of your favorite condiments???  Let me know and maybe i'll bust them for you!! lol

Thank you So much!!

I have to start by saying what an amazing reaction I received from my smoking stats!  I also have to thank two great peeps for LFG some awards!!! You have no idea how much that means to me especially since my content has been lacking lately.  Again some more apologies for that!! At least I only stopped writing not loosing right!?!? lol.

The awards, you ask??

from our bestest chubby buddy!

This one requires that I do a bunch of things so i'll try my best to get it all out, but don't get excited here ppl lol!!

Name three things that I have found hardest about my journey:

Name five things that you have enjoyed about your journey:
1) never having to see the number 200 again.
2) the overall feeling of accomplishment
3) compliments!!!
4) I can fit into regular clothes and it keeps getting better!!
5) enjoying myself more and feeling more outgoing actually.... but doing more things means less time for you folks :( TEARS OF SADNESS!!! lol

Then I have to pass it along, well folks I don't really have time to go around to ALL of you who deeply deserve this motivation as well.  Honestly, you kids kick butt and you all deserve it too so take it, by all means you earned it peeps!!

PLUS a Versatile award!

This requires me to tell you seven things about me:

1) I am lazy... who knew!
2) I am tired
3) I am stressed out today with meetings coming up new day care clients etc.
4) Soon summer will be here and I will be outside ALL THE TIME and i'm super excited... traditionally I don't really enjoy summer.
5) I need and AC unit for the upcoming summer.
6) I think all these things i'm sharing are relatively boring and I just want to sit down on the couch and enjoy the nap time and so seldom-ly comes throughout my day.

given to me from; to Find the Line. She is a really awesome chick trying to juggle ALOT just like ME, and misery LOVES company lol.

I am also supposed to pass this along to 15 up and coming blogs I have found... When I have time to find them I will pass them along guys!!

And I'm The Nice One

Ya that's what you think going into Bob Harper's new workout DVD Pure Burn Super Strength.  You've seen The Biggest Loser on TV and have seen Jillian yell but not so much with Bob. Everyone loves Bob as he has assumed the role of the nice trainer on the show. Well you might change your mined after you do this DVD.

There are two workouts to chose from. A short 20 minute workout where Bob does a nice job in that short amount of time of giving you a total body workout. The other portion of the DVD is a 60 minute workout. Now this no in and out pussyfoot through it workout. This is one of the toughest weighted workouts I have done! So with that said lets take a look at what make this workout a killer...

Bob gives you a nice stretching warm up then gets right to work. He starts you out with weighted squats, push-ups and a bicep curl into a should press. He has you do this a few times till he adds bur-pees into the mix so you are now doing squats, bur-pee, push-up and bicep curl into a shoulder press. He alters it here and there with holding the weights up or staying halfway down in a push-up. After that Bob has you do rows and dead-lifts. He then proceeds to bring on the torture with a series that includes front raises, side raises and pinkie up raises, this is hitting all three points of your shoulders and gets tough pretty fast. He asks you to hold these raises as well! He then goes back to rows and then does the arm raise sequence again.

You are then given a 30 second water brake and can rest quickly. Bob now has covered most of the upper body and now moves on to the lower. With one weight in hand Bob has you do lunges staying on the same leg. After about a dozen or so he has you pass your weight under your legs from hand to hand. This forces you into a deeper lounge and gives you better posture during the exercise. After the lounges a single arm row in a squat is expected, then the whole lounge, row squat routine is preformed again and finished up with jumping lounges. Bob now intends to work on your biceps and triceps with bicep curls and over head triceps extensions. After that bob has you move to the floor, with skull crushers and chest presses that lead on to an ab crunch series. Your back standing now but single legged this time. You are expected to balance and do hammer curls. Next are forward and side extensions that continue in a squat position. Then still in that dang squat, you start to do weighted jump squats then chair pose expected.

Bob goes back to the triceps then brings you back down to the floor to do the skull crushers, chest press and ab sequence again. Next comes a vicious plank series. Plank rows are followed by T-stands with weights and more push-ups! This gets pretty tough with how fatigued your body is by now. You move back into lounges, but this time it's a three sided lounge, front, side and back. A standing weighted pullover is done before you start the three sided lounges on the other leg. Bob has you holding your weight out straight to isolate the arm. This is done on both arms in the front and to the side. Then Bob allows you to have another break before he makes you do one last plank series. Starting out in a lowered plank (on your elbows) he has you raise and lower your hips then twist them side to side. The last bit is a raising the knee up to your elbow (you are on your hands now) and switching slowly to the other leg. Once done a few times Bob has you speed up for the end of the workout. The cool down is so nice after that brutal workout! Your body definitely needs the stretching.

This is in fact a killer of a workout! Bob although his seems like a sweetie pie as a person is a murderous workout beast in the gym. I can promise you that sweat will be pouring from you by the end. I'm sorry but Jillian has nothing on Bob. As far as doing this with my arm it was tough at some points. I had to take mini breaks (5-10 seconds and stop then return to the exercise) to fully do this workout. It is by no means a beginners workout. Although I'd give you props to try it just make sure you modify it!

Could your mind be your secret weight loss weapon?!?!?!?!?

Could your mind be the secret to your weight loss???

I have been struggling recently trying to find a great topic for us to talk about here.  I know how much of you have been missing my informative content and I didn’t want to disappoint you with something dull.  I was hunting around for ideas on the web and came across the idea of “Habituation.”  It’s basically the reduction of stimulus after repeated exposure.  Now I know what you are all thinking.  What on earth does this have to do with losing weight??

Well after googling this idea I came across some great Dr. Oz footage that explains EVERYTHING!!  I know it is three parts but after you watch the first one you will definitely continue to the other two.

Now to many of you this idea may sound silly, the thought of visualizing yourself eating every bite BEFORE actually eating a meal seems ridiculous; but I just can’t ignore those numbers.  I can’t ignore the clear medical evidence of how we response at bite 20 vs. bite number one.

Dr. Oz also touches on how this technique would be ideal for those who eat emotionally, like myself.  The concept that mastering your minds view and reaction to food could ultimately be the key to mastering my weight.  How simple; how obvious… must be easier said than done.

Best part is this can also be adapted to other parts of your life!! Who knew!!  I know you are all thinking that this is pretty far-fetched and completely in-adaptable to daily life, but I think a little bit of practice can go a long way.  Start with your least stressful meal of the day; you know the one that you aren’t feeding something, mopping up something etc. etc.  A mealtime where you get to actually sit, even if its just a snack while the brats are sleeping, give it a try.  Not like trying it is going to do anything horrible to you, you will survive if you try it.  So go for it, enjoy your meal with EVERY sense I mean our love for food got us into this mess who is to say it can’t get us out of it once and for all!

my official numbers

Alright everyone this is the official update from the last little while.  Now my starting number (weight wise) was 200.9 lbs.  A dreadful number filled with ugliness lol.  I hope to never see that number again and I am not soo far off that I can afford to slack off anytime soon.

Over the last little while I have battled lack of time, kids, no money, depression, my lack of will power EVERYTHING.  The numbers are going down slowly but I can't complain when I am trying my best and doing what I can and the numbers aren't going up right??!!  Any loss is a good one and I will take it.

So with roughly made BETTER food choices, moderate exercise of all kinds, and patience this is our number ladies.

My weight is now 194 lbs!!  I know not too much, but WAY better than I thought it was going to be cause I have been really slacking it the last couple months with this move.  I also haven't watched what I have been eating as we don't really have a budget right now for me to be making picky food choices.  Yes i know it sucks crap food is cheaper but it is better than starving so sorry folks.  Sorry my numbers aren't higher to make you proud of me but i'm doing it!  And I am doing it my way!  But doing it my way has only lost me 6.2 fucking pounds... upset... discouraged... definitely going for a run around the track in the rain tonight so there better be no god damn soccer practices on that field tonight... I hate running when ppl are staring at me.

~Guest Post~ Janice Planet and how she did it.

Since I know a lot of you have been wondering how I did it and I told you, I thought another perspective would be GREAT!  So Thank you Janice for sharing with us a little about your journey!

While I was in law school, time was the last thing that I had. From attending lecture to burying my nose in my books, I had very little time to exercise. Late night pizza-fueled cram sessions, coupled with long bouts of physical inactivity resulted in me gaining a lot of weight while in a law program in Boston. Let’s just say that the unbearably cold weather and stress didn’t help. The next thing I knew, my clothes didn’t fit and I felt tired and worn out.

When I graduated and began working, I decided that it was time to lose the 15 pounds I had gained and to get fit. I knew that I would have trouble beginning a routine, so I got smart and hired a Personal Trainer. My trainer taught me how to work out effectively so that I had to spend less time in the gym, but with greater results. Because I hadn’t worked out in a long time, I started slowly and adding on more time and intensity as my body adapted to moving more. I started running, doing yoga and weight training, and while it was hard at first, it was such an amazing feeling of accomplishment when I started to see the results. I would run three days a week, strength train twice a week and do yoga as often as I could.

Lately, I have been working out with friends and that has been a very good habit for me because it keeps me accountable and it makes it a lot more fun! I also sneak in activity wherever I can, whether that means taking the stairs or washing the car instead of taking it to get washed by someone else, just to get a little extra heart-healthy activity in my day. Now, I still work out 5-6 times a week and I have kept the weight off and feel amazing.

In addition to exercise, I also completely changed my eating habits. While I was in school, I survived on greasy pizza, ice cream, ramen noodles and anything quick and cheap. I snuck in the occasional apple, but the nutritious items basically stopped there. I grew up eating fairly unhealthful foods, so when it came time to change my diet, I really had no idea where to begin.

I decided I needed some professional help. With my experience, I realized that if you want to see quick results, it’s important to consult with a Dietitian. My dietitian taught me portion control, which foods to eat and when and how to eat to fuel my body for my workouts and to have more energy. I started avoiding processed foods and sugars, and began eating more fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and healthy fats. I filled my plate up with more vegetables and fruits and limited my night time snacking. After just a couple of days on my new diet plan, I felt like a brand new person. Losing weight isn’t always an easy thing, but having the help of a personal trainer and a dietitian made all of the difference in the world.

How do I do it?!??!

I was asked the other day about how I manage to still loose weight, move, blog, take care of two kids, entertain the idea of finding more employment, not to mention clean my house, myself, and eat.  Well the answer is simple.  I do it within and inch of my sanity.  Yup that's right, I bust my butt and MAKE time for things.  I do squats when I do dishes, when I put my dishes away I do a modification of a, what I call, "lazy-burpees."  I try to exercise as soon as I put the kids down for a nap; luckily I have that option for the time being.  Right now my hubby is also usually home currently so that helps, he tries to keep the kids away from me as I do my Wii B.S.

What else do I do??

Well, one I don't own a car so every time there is any shopping to be done I must walk to the store and back again pushing/carrying groceries.  There is also no elevator in my building so I am forced to walk up a couple flights of stairs with the kids, groceries and stroller.  Let me tell you I don't go shopping without my hubby, sometimes we even take the bus to the store and back depending on where we go.  But we have a few options within walking distance of us which is really lovely.

I also play.  Just like a kid.  When I go to the park with them I try to jump around and play on the monkey bars too, there is a reason why they have play grounds ppl... they are free gyms!  Plus who doesn't like to take a few minutes to swing on the swings just like you used to right?!?!

I mean this looks like a blast!!  This is a park I used to play at as a kiddo.  We bused quite a bit to get there lol!  But it was worth it for the pictures!
Seriously you just have to take advantage of sunny days and even the rainy ones.  My Eldest just LOVES to jump in puddles and how on earth could I take that from him?!  Plus running and jumping for me is great exercise lol.  So give it a try just take advantage of what everyday brings you.  If it is a laundry day and you at stuck folding, why not stand up and do it while squatting or just marching on the spot to burn those extra calories.  I am not saying that I do these things EVERY DAY all the time, everyone has their lazy days and you are entitled to that.  But always remember to get out whenever it's nice out, check out your neighborhood, go bird watching, hunt for plant clippings or just enjoy the scenery... before you know it you've walked for an hour or more!  And you would have enjoyed yourself.  No pressure just baby steps and TRUST me the next thing you know you'll be jogging and walking; then running.  You'll surprise yourself.

Today I am taking eldest on a walk to plant some apple seeds just for kicks.  No idea where but I am just going to go for it :).  Hope you all do to!
